Amy Lawton Plays for the Hockeyroos at the Paris Olympics 2024

Julie Lawton, a staff member at our Adult Community Options (ACO) Disability Day Support Program proudly announced that her daughter Amy will represent Australia in women’s hockey at the Paris Olympics!

Our program participants are thrilled for Amy and Julie, decorating their rooms at our Parkdale site with posters of Amy and the team.

 

To celebrate they have created a colour in page of Amy and interviewed Julie for their upcoming newsletter.

Interview with Julie Lawton:

What number does Amy wear? 4

How much training has Amy had to do before the Olympics?
Amy trains every day except Sunday.

How long has Amy played Hockey for?
She started playing when she was 8 and she is now 22, so 14 years!

Has Amy always wanted to go to travel and go to Paris?
Absolutely always wanted to travel  and she has visited Paris when she was 9 months old.  Amy has played in the U17 team in France also.

Are you going to the Olympic Games?
Yes and I am so excited.

What food would you like to try in Paris?
Croissant with chocolates or Almonds.

Do you or Amy know who to speak French?
Amy doesn’t but I do!

Do you the Hockeyroos are going to win?
Would like to think so however it will be tough.

What colours are the uniform?
I’m not sure – Amy will find out when she arrives at the Olympic Village.

Do you have to wear your hair in a certain way when playing?
It must be off your face.

What hobbies does Amy have?

  • Hiking
  • Yoga
  • Bouldering
  • Walking the dog
  • Surfing


Why did Amy get into Hockey?
She read about it in a school newsletter.

What sports did you play Julie?

  • Tennis
  • Hockey at State Level
  • Squash at International Level – played for Zimbabwe for 8 years

On a scale of 1-10 how much do you love hockey?
Julie: 9.5 out of 10
Amy: 20 out of 10.

What is the process of being selected for the Olympic Games?
The National coach and 3 selectors review all of the games that you have played.
They assess your health and fitness, skill level.
Once the 16 team members are selected it goes to the National Olympic Committee.
