Who do I help by volunteering at BHN?

Volunteers make a big difference in the lives of our clients who may be facing social isolation or might not otherwise be able to take part in our services.
Having a full team of volunteers’ means programs can run at full capacity.
Many clients also become friends with our volunteers and enjoy being greeted by a familiar and friendly face when they come into our sites.

How long do I have to commit for?

Different programs have different requirements, ranging from 1 month to 1 year. This is to ensure a mutually beneficial and rewarding experience for both you and the clients and program you engage with.

What screening and compliance is needed?

The base compliance requirement for all volunteers includes a National Police Check, and a Working with Children Check. Other forms of compliance may include an International police check and Visa check, a Statutory Declaration, Driving Assessment or NDIS worker screening check depending on the program area you wish to volunteer with.

All the relevant compliance will be sent to you prior to you starting your role and there will not be any costs for you.

Will I receive training?

Yes. Full training and support is provided. All volunteers’ complete BHN orientation and infection control training before commencement. You will also receive induction and training specific to area you volunteer with. Training is an important and compulsory part of the on- boarding process to ensure a safe and rewarding volunteer experience.

What is the minimum age for volunteering?

The minimum age to volunteer is 18years old.
Do you support mutual obligation requirements (Centrelink)?

Yes. We can fill out mutual obligation paperwork after your third shift.

Where are you located?

BHN provide services across the municipalities of Kingston, Bayside, Glen Eira, Port Phillip, Greater Dandenong, Frankston, Mornington Peninsula, Casey and Monash.

Our main offices are located in Parkdale, South Melbourne and Bentleigh East.

We have volunteer opportunities across all sites and in neighbouring suburbs.
