If you are in a category below, the National Immunization Program will fund your influenza vaccination free of charge. Otherwise, you will need to purchase your influenza vaccine privately ($20), and you will be bulk billed for the consultation.

  • A child between the ages of 6 months to less than 5 years, or a person over 65 years of age
  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months and older
  • Women who are pregnant
  • Those with medical conditions that put them at an increased risk of severe influenza and its complications
  • Various heart diseases (e.g. angina, heart attack, congestive heart failure)
  • Those with long-term respiratory conditions (e.g. COPD, severe asthma that requires the use of multiple medicines or frequent medical consultations)
  • Those with long-term neurological conditions (e.g. neuromuscular diseases, seizure disorders)
  • Long-term renal failure
  • Conditions that compromise immunity (e.g. malignancy, long-term steroid use, HIV)
  • Metabolic disorders such as diabetes
  • Blood disorders (haematological)
  • Children between the ages of 6 months to 10 years on long-term aspirin therapy
