About the NDIS
What is the NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) aims to revolutionise disability services in Australia. In order to accomplish this, it aims to:
- Recognise that disability related support is a right
- Affirm the right that all people have to an ‘ordinary life’
- Place control over funding with the person and their support network by matching funding to the support needed
- Negotiate individual agreements between providers and those who will receive the service
- Promote a model of disability support based on a social model, in which the community sector contributes to the support of all community members
- Create an open market of providers that clients can choose from
Through the NDIS, eligible individuals develop a plan that identifies their needs, goals, and the disability-related supports they need.
